Learning to Analyze Medical Images: A Smart Adaptive Learning Environment for an Ill-Defined Domain

Full Text: icsle2016.pdf PDF

While Medical Imaging is a cornerstone of modern medicine, adequately instructing students in medical schools to analyze these images is still lacking in terms of allocated time and diversity in exposure. To help alleviate this problem we propose the creation of a new smart learning environment: the gamification of an online Intelligent Tutoring System focused on medical imaging. This proposed system makes use of modern serious games practices to increase student engagement, and plays on innovative student modelling techniques to provide learner adaptive feedback in a field of study where conventional techniques do not apply.
